(Supportive-Emergency-Empowerment-Program)

HARRY VCOS S-E-E-P is a non-conventional program that provides Supportive Services to veterans, members of our Armed Services and their eligible family members. Services are also available to members of the National Guard and Reservists.

Supportive Services to veterans and/or an eligible family member are delivered by way of agency/self referrals. Services for educational benefits, employment, vocational/career development training, mental/physical health benefits, burial benefits, VASH housing, claims development are all services that are referred to the appropriate agencies. Emergency Assistance and Empowerment Activities are initiatives under S.E.E.P. 

Emergency Assistance that prevents the disconnection of utilities i.e. gas, electric and water, provides minimal housing assistance, food, clothing, small car repairs that support employment, medical co pays/OTC medicines etc.

Empowerment Activities that engage the veterans in community outreach, intergenerational youth mentoring, veterans’ coffees and network programs/symposiums/virtual meetings and advocacy.

Clients are seen Monday—Wednesday—Friday from 11 a.m.—3 p.m. Clients are seen by appointment. 

Service areas are Forsyth, Davidson, Guilford, Stokes and Yadkin counties.

Statement of Policy 

It is the policy of HARRY VCOS to adhere to the City of Winston Salem Nondiscrimination Ordinance in conjunction with the Equal Employment Opportunity Policy that prohibits discrimination of any employee, job applicant, volunteer and/or program participant based on race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, color, creed, sexual orientation, sexual harassment, gender,  gender identity or gender expression, protected hairstyles, pregnancy, disability, age, veteran status, marital status, familial status or political affiliation and freedom from discrimination during outreach in public or onsite programs and/or events. Recruitment

Advertisements/posting for opportunities will provide clear and accurate information to enable potential applicants for employment and/or volunteer opportunities to assess their own suitability for their desired positions. Information about vacant posts will be provided in such a manner that does not restrict its audience in terms of equality.

Recruitment literature will not imply a preference for one group of applicants unless there is a genuine occupational qualification which limits the post to this particular group, in which case this must be clearly stated. All descriptions and specifications for posts will include only requirements that are necessary and justifiable for the effective performance of the job and/or volunteer positions.

Employment/Volunteer Opportunities

HARRY VCOS does not discriminate on the basis of sex, ethnic group, sexual orientation/preference, gender, age, martial status or religion for part-time or fixed term contract status at any level with comparable job or volunteer descriptions.

Training

Volunteers/Employees will be provided with appropriate training without discrimination as outlined in the stated Ordinance and EEO. All persons will be encouraged to discuss their career prospects and training needs with the Executive Director.

Grievance and Victimization

HARRY VCOS emphasizes that discrimination and sexual harassment is a violation of organization’s policy under the EEO and Ordinance outlined in this document. Any/all violations of the policy will be investigated by organization Board and complaints/accusations will be subject to the Grievance Procedure. Appropriate action will be taken that may lead to termination and/or legal action.
